Why Should Hospitals Use A Health Monitoring System?

Health monitoring, as the name suggests, is identifying and dealing with the changes in health. It includes natural changes or changes in response to a stimulus. Monitoring, in a conventional setup, is done under the careful supervision of the expert or a doctor.

However, technology has enabled the experts to delegate this somewhat clerical job to the
devices that are operated under careful supervision. In instances where the situation becomes alarming, these devices signal the expert who then intervenes.

There are many different types of devices that comprise the health monitoring system.
Wearable technology like smart bands, bracelets with sensors is some examples. These are
generally pair via some software or application to an actual human expert, who can
remotely access the patient stats rather than measuring for themselves.

Doctors are greatly facilitated by HMS as it allows them to help their patients in the best
possible way. For example, a patient suffering from heart disease can be catered to well by the
best cardiologist in Lahore due to the information and data available to the doctor.

Why should health monitoring systems be used?

Offers cheaper solution

Having a nurse or a doctor at the constant beck and call of the patient is obviously very
expensive. It is not scalable either; there are far more patients out there than doctors and
therefore the principles of demand and supply will always be tilted in the favor of the
medical staff dictating the economic terms.

A Health monitoring system, therefore, offers a cheaper solution to this problem. The patient
can conveniently wear the sensor and can be assured that the doctor will be here if and
when things start to go awry. It also gives the patients some mental peace when they do not
have to worry about mounting doctor fees and hospital bills.

Allow the doctors to focus on more important jobs

Doctors have so much of their precious time wasted in catering to mundane jobs. When
they are preoccupied with the vitals gathering, they are unable to serve more people.
Hence, rather than saving lives per se, doctors and other important medical staff have to
spend time doing this clerical job.

On the other hand, health monitoring systems allow doctors to be free from this pressure.
The machine then does these menial jobs, albeit under the supervision of the doctors, who
are then free to look over more cases.

This has multiple benefits; doctors are able to gain more experience by catering to different
patients, they are also able to give proper attention to the more serious patients and
patients to are cared for better. Rather than having split attention of the doctor, their stats
get monitored by a more conscientious sensor.

Helps with constant monitoring of the patients

A doctor or nurse cannot possibly be taking the patient vitals all the time. It is also a great
inconvenience to the patient as well, as no one appreciates the constant interruptions.
Instead, the sensors silent keep constant track of the pertinent factors.

Immediate care

Since the doctor cannot be tied at the hip to the patient, it is reasonable to assume that if
something goes amiss with the patient, immediate care is not always a possibility. It might
take the medical staff a while to get abreast of the failing stats.

Machines, on the contrary, can be with the patient at all times. Any anomalies are
immediately noted by it and either through message, beep or some other signal, the staff is
alerted almost instantly to the failing health of the patient.

Hence, timely monitoring of the patient stats is ensured.

Contains useful patient history

The sensors are equipped to store the data that is being monitored. This is very useful as the
doctor needs to know the periodic stats of the patient and the device is a hassle-free solution. It
also ensures that the patient is getting the best care as the doctor is able to make an educated
assessment.

Remote patient monitoring

The patient’s primary doctor has the best knowledge about them, naturally. However, it is
not always the case that the doctor is available on-premises to look after the patient. Health
Monitoring systems thus enable the doctors to keep monitoring their patients even from
remote locations.

So, the constant presence of the doctor, at the hospital becomes superfluous.

That’s not all; it is also possible for the hospitals to monitor the patient while they are home.
There is no cure for terminal cases and all hospitals do is make it comfortable for them.
However, hospitals are also the hub of disease and infection.

Unless the patient needs some hospital-exclusive paraphernalia, they can then be equipped
at home by the hospital staff to minimize the risk of infections for the patient, as they are
very vulnerable and susceptible to falling ill.

Early diagnosis leads to better recovery

This is true for the people whom the doctor suspects some disease or they are at risk of
developing it. Through the monitoring device, the doctor is able to constantly track their
progress.

Hence, doctors are much more able to diagnose diseases. Also, with the early diagnosis comes
a greater chance of recuperation. For example, the best cardiologist in Islamabad can
constantly track the vitals of a patient with hypertension issues. As soon as it crosses the
dangerous limit, the patient can be ushered into the hospital before it gets to something as
complicated as a stroke.
